Stockholm has a temperate climate with four very distinct seasons. The highest and lowest temperatures that have been recorded in Stockholm are +38°C and -32°C.

Spring
The spring usually begins some time in March or April and it’s also when Stockholm’s many open-air restaurants open. The day’s are usually sunny and the daylight lasts longer and longer for every week that passes.
The parks fill up with Stockholmers and visitors who are eager to get some sunshine after a long and dark winter. The evenings are often cool so bring an extra sweater in your backpack if you’re planning on staying out the whole day. The temperatures normally vary between 5 and 15°C.
Summer
In June the days start getting really long and the nights short. The summer has come to Stockholm and Stockholm’s beaches and cliffs are packed with sun-thirsty people. Stockholm’s boat life is in full motion and the lines to the ice-cream shops are long. If it’s a sunny day the temperatures can climb to over 30°C.
If you’re not that lucky you can in any case walk around in town in temperatures of 20-25°C. The sun is up for long time and the sunniest day of the year is the 23rd of June, when the sun goes up at 3:30am and sets at 10:10pm.
Fall
The fall usually sets in in September but in recent years the late summer heat has lasted until October. The temperatures decrease significantly and the evenings get darker. The weather usually includes rain and fall storms. The climate is good for city walks and cozy coffee breaks at one of Stockholm’s many cafés.
Out on Djurgården the trees’ green leaves start transforming into yellow and red works of art. Take a long walk there in the fresh fall air. The temperature during the fall is usually between 5 and 18°C.
Winter
The winters have during recent years become milder in Stockholm and, to the horror of many Stockholmers, the snow has hardly appeared at all. During a normal winter however, the temperature usually dips bellow zero. The ground is usually covered with the white stuff in time for New Years Eve and the cold climate usually lasts until March.
In January and February it can get really cold with temperatures as cold as -10°C. During the winter the days are short and on the 22nd of December, the darkest day of the year, the sun rises at 8:45am and sets at 2:50pm. The temperature usually varies between +2 and -7°C.
